Policy and Advocacy Bootcamp Series: Out of the Box Ways to Increase Your Advocacy Profile

Policy decisions and grassroots advocacy play one of the largest roles in the sustainability of a thriving system that supports aging services. Policy decisions are frequently reflected in practice changes and resource allocations, including legislative and regulatory outcomes at the federal, state, and local levels. Grassroots advocacy helps shape dialogue among change-agents and key decision makers. 

In this policy and advocacy bootcamp series, attendees will learn about the legislative and regulatory basics, including how the state operating budget moves through the Ohio legislature and what Lame Duck can mean for aging services. Additionally, attendees will garner hands-on, out of the box ways to increase their advocacy profile that supports their facility, residents, and profession.  Lastly, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from lobbyists, lawmakers, and LeadingAge Ohio member advocates.

During this 1-hour session, the differences between advocacy, lobbying, and politicking, as well as how to leave your politics at the door. Learners will also garner hands-on strategies to increase their advocacy profile through this interactive, virtual workshop, including, but not limited to how to share a good story and how to host a candidates’ forum.
