Discover how nursing homes are being cited with their annual surveys. The Long-Term Care Survey Process and regulatory language will be reviewed. Each month will delve into a specific survey topic. Common citation examples will be given with interactive discussion from members sharing their survey experiences, best practices, and lessons learned. Obtain useful tips and tactics for the monthly highlighted topic. Resources and other reference material will be shared.
Immunization compliance remains a critical focus during annual surveys, with F883 (Influenza and Pneumococcal Immunizations) frequently cited when facilities fail to follow regulatory requirements for offering, documenting, and administering vaccines. In 2025, multiple CMS QSO memos and CDC updates have revised recommendations for timing, eligibility, and administration of certain vaccines, including updated guidance on COVID-19, influenza, pneumococcal, and RSV vaccines for older adults. Surveyors will expect facilities to incorporate these updates into policies, education, and recordkeeping. This session will review the most recent QSO memos and CDC recommendations, highlight common reasons for immunization-related citations, and provide strategies to ensure your vaccination program is both survey-ready and aligned with current federal guidance. Participants will also discuss best practices for overcoming vaccine hesitancy among residents and staff.
