Obtain useful tips and tactics for the monthly highlighted topic. Resources and other reference material will be shared.
Facilities know they are required to investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and mistreatment, but completing an investigation does not necessarily mean it will withstand surveyor scrutiny. In a review of recent abuse-related citations, F610 was the second most frequently cited abuse deficiency, with survey findings highlighting where facility investigations commonly fall short.
What makes an investigation fall short? This session will go beyond the basic requirement to investigate and examine where facility investigations are breaking down. Using trends and examples from actual survey findings, participants will explore missed investigative opportunities, insufficient interviews and follow-up, conflicting information that was not resolved, evidence that was not pursued, and conclusions that were not adequately supported. The session will provide practical strategies for evaluating the strength of an investigation before the surveyor does.
